Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) and CTRL Systems: Partners in Innovation
The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Predictive Maintenance and Enhanced Troubleshooting (PMET) team and CTRL Systems have come together to offer an innovative solution for aviation diagnostics and troubleshooting of all Boeing Commercial Jet Aircrafts through acoustic ultrasound technology. The “Charlies Works” Team is a part of BCA’s PMET division. The mission of this highly-skilled team is to rapidly locate and integrate innovative solutions to difficult chronic airplane systems, tailored to the needs of the Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT). Once discovered, new solutions are vetted for quick and effective implementation and published in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), as “Charlie Works” continues to to collect and share knowledge within the commercial aviation industry.
CTRL Systems is the designer and manufacturer of advanced acoustic ultrasound technologies and turnkey monitoring solutions for industries around the world. From paper mills in the United States to power plants in China, from U.S. Navy vessels around the world and all the way to the International Space Station (ISS), CTRL ultrasound technology helps the world to run efficiently and on on time. In addition to our work delivering cloud-based condition monitoring solutions to industry, we possess a long, successful history of delivering Aircraft on Ground (AOG) diagnostic solutions into both government and commercial aviation markets. For more than 20 years, our technology has been used for fleet readiness, AOG diagnostics, and quality control by the United States Air Force, NASA, the United States Navy, Boeing Engineering, Airbus, United Airlines, Cirrus Aircraft, Northrop Grumman, and many others.
A Long History of Aircraft Maintenance Innovation
In early 2019, BCA’s PMET group approached CTRL Systems regarding an innovative ultrasound solution. We were selected, in part, due to our history in the aerospace industry — including prior vetting, selection, amd integration for support and readiness on various platforms:
All NASA shuttles from 2004 until retired
Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter
The United States Navy: McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Grumman C-2 Greyhound, Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye, Lockheed P-3 Orion & Boeing P-8 Poseidon
The United States Air Force: Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagles, General Dynamic/Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon & Boeing KC-46 Pegasus
CTRL UL101 Troubleshooter for Boeing (B00033) Included in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) for all Boeing Commercial Jet Aircraft.
CTRL Systems is pleased to be vetted and approved for AOG diagnostics for all Boeing Commercial Jet Aircrafts. The CTRL UL101 Troubleshooter for Boeing (part number B00033; Boeing Tool Tag SPL-1473) is the ultrasound listening device (ULD) of choice for “Ultrasonic Leak Checks,” as published in the December 2019 revision of the Boeing Commercial Jets' Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM).
Pressurization Leak Checks
Air Conditioning Leak Checks
Bleed Air Check (Engine & Airframe)
Hydraulic Bypassing
Pitot Static Check
Oxygen
Evacuation Slides, Tires & Other Pressure Components
The UL101 is also listed as a Boeing Tool with the Tag # COM-1473 and PN B00033. The 737NG FIM ATA 23-44 for Parking Brake troubleshooting is published and the UL101 is listed as a tool for ultrasonic troubleshooting in the 737NG AMM ATA 20-10-79.
