CTRL Systems, Inc. (Westminster, Maryland) - Exports are big business for small and midsize Maryland companies. That was the message from Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, when he presented local company CTRL Systems with the U.S. Commercial Service's Export Achievement Certificate on October 7th. The award recognizes U.S. businesses that have made their first or a significant new-to-market export sale.

"Most jobs in America are created by small companies. Small and midsize companies like CTRL Systems comprise almost 97 percent of U.S. exporters," said Congressman Roscoe Bartlett.

CTRL Systems, a small, Maryland based Company (www.ctrlsys.com), is a high-tech manufacturer of ultrasound diagnostic sensors, sophisticated signal processing, and maintenance management software. The company provides practical and affordable solutions to engineering, operations, safety, quality control, and maintenance departments in all industries - including aerospace, aviation, health, petrochemical, railroad, automotive, manufacturing, and the military.

The Baltimore Export Assistance Center's International Trade Specialist, Jeanne Townsend, in conjunction with the Overseas Commercial Service posts, and local partners such as the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development's (DBED) Office of International Trade, have provided market intelligence and export assistance to CTRL expanding their international market presence to eleven countries; France, Germany, Ireland, Turkey, Brazil, Taiwan, Korea, Poland, Japan, India and China. CTRL Systems' CEO Robert Roche said, "An increase of $600,000 in overseas sales due to the assistance of the U.S. Commercial Service and the Maryland Office of International Trade."

"CTRL is an example of a small company that has done all the right things to develop its international strategy," says Maria-Angelica Vargas, a trade specialist with the DEBD's Office of International Trade who attended the award ceremony.

The U.S. Department of Commerce's Export Achievement Certificate recognizes companies that are business clients of the Commerce Department's U.S. Commercial Service, and that have used their services to make their first export sale or open new foreign markets.
