The following samples demonstrate ultrasonic inspection using the UL101 and Solid Probe in contact to determine the condition of internal components such as bearings, gears, and valves.

Finding Bad Solenoids And Valves

The UL101 is placed directly in contact with the housing of the valve. The steam, liquid, or hydraulic flow can be heard through the headset when the valve is open. When the valve is closed, there should be no sound. If the valve is closed and sound is present, there is a leak or cavitation. In this case, the technician was able to pinpoint a bad coil.
