Ultrasonic Inspection: Gearboxes
Types of Gearboxes
- Spur - A combination of a small and large wheel that lie parallel to the shaft axes.
- Rack & Pinion - A straight rack translates rectilinearly and may be regarded as part of a wheel of infinite diameter.
- Helical - Like spur, helical gears connect parallel shafts but the teeth lie along helices to the axes rather than parallel to the shaft axes.
- Straight Bevel - Bevel gears are used for shafts whose axes intersect.
- Worm - The worm gears are used for shafts that are perpendicular. It provides a large speed ratio but has significant sliding.
- Hypoid - Hypoid gears are used for offset shafts.
